Resolved Question: How to find Army records for my grandpa?

All I know about him is that he was born in Yakima Washington about 1921. He drove a tank during World War II for the Army and was under General George Patton's command. When my dad was a kid, he and his mom (my grandma) both believed that he was a P.O.W (Prisoner of War) from some evidence they found but he refused to talk about his experiences in the war. He died in 1984 (plus or minus a couple years) from cancer. We cant find his dog tags anywhere and we where wondering if their is a way to find army records to see exactly what happened without the need of his dog tag number.
